Google now offers certifications in several of their products. Each certification includes testing and tutorials on the products before you can become certified. Currently, Google offers different levels of certification for Google AdWords and Google Apps for Education. These are proctored exams that require registration with an external service that monitors you during the exam. Additional details about the third party process are at the end of this article.
Google AdWords Certification
Google offers two levels of certification for their AdWords products. You can certify your company or you can certify as an individual. Being certified in Google AdWords means you are proficient in all the most up-to-date tools and practices for Google AdWords.
Certifying your company as an industry expert in Google AdWords allows you to list your company in the certified partners directory. This allows potential customers and clients to find you when in need of AdWords services. Certified Companies also gain access to exclusive Google market support, business discounts on Google products and events, as well as additional certification membership benefits.
To be certified as a Google AdWords company, you must have at least one member of your company who has passed a minimum of two certification tests themselves. To become an AdWords certified partner, a company must have managed a minimum of $10,000 USD in the last 90 days in addition to having an employee who is certified in at least two categories of certification.
Certifying at the individual level is not quite as involved as it is at the company level. To be qualified to become AdWords certified, the interested party must take and pass the Advertising Fundamentals exam as well as one other exam at the advanced level. Google offers three different advanced level exams on Search Advertising, Display Advertising, and Reporting and Analysis.
Google Apps for Education Certification
Google Apps has a certification process for those wanting to be certified in Google Apps as well as those who are wanting to teach Google Apps to others. The Google Apps for Education programs are geared towards students and teachers who want to use Google Apps for education purposes. In order to become individually certified, you must pass all six exams in the areas of: Google Apps Education Edition, Apps Mail, Calendar, Docs, Sites, and Other Tools. Each section contains chapters and sections that you can work through at your own pace and take the exam when you're ready.
To become a Certified Trainer, you must first be a certified individual and then apply to become a Certified Trainer. During the application process, you will be required to submit case studies, speaking videos, sample instructional materials, and demonstrate experience with the Google Apps for Education.
You can also become a Certified Trainer organization. To qualify, you must employ a minimum of 3 Certified Trainers, provide references that can attest to your training abilities at an educational institution level.
Proctor Information
Google's certification programs are proctored by a third party company called Kryterion. In order to take the certification exams, you must purchase a Kryterion Webcam that costs $45. After setting up the webcam and registering with Kryterion's website, you will be able to take the exams. The Webcam takes your picture at the beginning and after you log in to the Kryterion test site. The camera monitors you while you take the exam and the test site locks down your browser. You are not allowed to take phone calls, write, or go to another browser or website while taking the exam.
Additional Certifications
Google is always adding additional certifications to their offerings. Check back with Google often to see if new certifications are available.
